A southern Alberta man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the horrific attack on his own daughter.
The 50-year-old from Lethbridge was also charged with physical abuse, although the Crown dropped those charges in June due to a lack of medical evidence.
Provincial Court Justice Christine Ailsby said the girl's injuries were so severe that doctors did not expect her to survive.
The girl's mother has also pleaded guilty to not providing her daughter with basic needs.
The 8-month-old girl has now been sent to a foster home from a Calgary hospital.
