The Crown has requested a 14-year prison sentence for 36-year-old Winnipeg truck driver Harpreet Singh in connection with a cocaine seizure worth nearly $1 million at Ontario’s Ambassador Bridge in 2022. The sentencing request was made in a Windsor court. The incident dates back to August 1, 2022. At approximately 1:23 a.m., Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers stopped two truck drivers, Harpreet Singh and Narinder Singh, for inspection. A 22-year-old man is in critical condition in hospital after a shooting in Surrey on Monday night. According to the Surrey Police Service (SPS), officers received reports of shots fired around 9:45 p.m. in the 9000-block of Snowden Place in Central Surrey. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found evidence of a shooting and signs that someone had been injured. However, neither a suspect nor a victim was found at the location. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that transferring Jagtar Singh Hawara, convicted in the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, from Delhi’s Tihar Jail to any prison in Punjab could have a significant impact on the upcoming Assembly elections.
