Amid extortion cases being investigated by Canadian police, it has come to light that $200,000 was demanded from a Caledon auto dealer in Ontario.
According to the owner, he received a voice call from an unknown number on WhatsApp. This incident happened in December. According to the auto dealer, he was threatened to either deposit the money in a Canadian account or transfer it to India.
The dealer said that at first he did not take the demand seriously and had no intention of paying, but when he reached his lot on December 6, he saw bullets under his shoes. In total, the attackers targeted 11 vehicles and this was reported to the police.
The car dealer said that this is not only an issue for the South Asian community but also a matter of Canadian security. A similar extortion threat was received by a Brampton restaurant owner on January 19.
This time the ransom was demanded after a violent threat. It is to be noted that the Peel Police has formed a 23-member task force to investigate cases of extortion.
