B.C. Premiere David Eby's Premier’s statement on Vaisakhi

On the occasion of Vaisakhi, British Columbia Premier David Eby has issued the following statement marking Vaisakhi:

"Today, Sikhs here in British Columbia and around the world will gather to celebrate Vaisakhi. Marking the formation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh Ji more than three centuries ago, Vaisakhi is among the holiest days in the Sikh calendar. Vaisakhi is a time for family and community, and of coming together in worship and celebration. This year, it will be marked by prayer and reflection in gurdwaras across the province, in parades and Nagar Kirtans, and gatherings with family. Vaisakhi is also a time to reaffirm Sikh values of sewa (service), sharing, and honesty. These values resonate beyond the Sikh community to the benefit of our entire province. As we celebrate Sikh Heritage Month, it’s worth remembering the many ways in which B.C.’s large Sikh population has contributed to our province and shaped our shared history for the better. On behalf of the Government of British Columbia, I would like to wish a Happy Vaisakhi to all who celebrate. Vaisakhi Diyan Lakh Lakh Vadhaiyan!"

At least 930 dead as Congo's Ebola outbreak continues to grow

At least 930 people have died in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Ebola outbreak, according to the country's Ministry of Health. The ministry said 2,344 Ebola cases had been confirmed as of Saturday. In an overnight update into Monday, officials reported 37 additional deaths in the previous 24 hours, marking one of the highest single-day death totals recorded during the outbreak. Mexico is not seeking a separate bilateral trade agreement with the United States that would exclude Canada, Mexican Foreign Affairs Secretary Roberto Velasco Álvarez said Friday, reaffirming his country's commitment to the trilateral Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).
