Area restriction issued for Kiskatinaw: BC Wildfire Service

The B-C Wildfire Service says it has issued an area restriction around the Kiskatinaw (kiss-KAT'-in-aw) River wildfire
near the B-C-Alberta border.
The service says the restriction takes effect this morning and will last until October, restricting entry to a large swath of Crown land where the fire has spurred evacuation orders and alerts.
The wildfire service says the blaze is now more than 265-square kilometres in size, and the restriction bars people from entering unless they're travelling to and from home, using a highway or entering to support fire suppression activities.
It says those who violate the area restriction may be issued a ticket for a little more than 11-hundred dollars.

Canada's Fernandez storms into quarterfinals at Nottingham Open
Canada's Leylah Fernandez has entered the quarterfinals of the Nottingham Open tennis tournament. She defeated Spain's Cristina Bucsa in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
Fernandez maintained a strong hold throughout the 1 hour and 43 minute bout. This was Fernandez' third win over Bucsa, who hails from Laval, Quebec.
Fernandez had previously beaten the Spanish player at the Paris Olympics and the Australian Open. Fernandez' quarterfinal match will be held on Friday, June 20.

Missing 3-year-old girl found in Montreal
A search has been launched for a missing 3-year-old girl in Montreal. The girl is reportedly alive and talking. She had been missing since Sunday. The Quebec Provincial Police held a press conference to update the search for the girl.
Sergeant Eloise Cosset said it was not possible to provide any further information about the circumstances under which the girl was found and what had happened over the past day and a half.
He said another press conference would be held later to provide more information on the case. He also thanked the community for their support in helping to find the girl.

4 deaths due to Corona in India in the last 24 hours
In India, 4 deaths have been reported due to Corona in the last 24 hours, two in Maharashtra and 1 each in Delhi and Kerala.
According to the Health Department, 113 people have died due to Corona since January 2025. The highest number of deaths have occurred in Kerala and Maharashtra. A total of 13 deaths have also occurred in Delhi.
There are 6,483 active cases of Corona in 32 states and union territories of the country. So far 42 patients of Corona have been found in Punjab.

Police investigating found body
Port Alberni RCMP is investigating following the discovery of a deceased person in a local park on Monday.
On June 16, 2025, at 5:41 p.m., Port Alberni RCMP received the report of a body in Dry Creek Park. Frontline officers responded and located a deceased person with apparent injuries. Forensic Identification Services attended and processed the scene.
