The Abbotsford Police Department says traffic enforcement will remain a key focus in 2026, citing ongoing concerns about collisions linked to speeding, impaired driving, and distracted driving on local roads.
Police say these factors continue to contribute to serious injuries and fatalities, many of which are considered preventable. Officers are expected to continue a mix of enforcement and public education aimed at improving safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians across the city.
According to figures released by AbbyPD, officers issued more than 4,900 traffic violation tickets in 2025. That included 420 excessive speeding cases that resulted in vehicle impoundments. Police also report that 1,239 impaired drivers were taken off the road over the course of the year.
The department says enforcement efforts have included targeted operations, high-visibility patrols, and outreach initiatives designed to encourage compliance with traffic laws. Abbotsford police note that similar strategies have been used in previous years to address high-risk driving behaviours.
Traffic safety remains a broader concern across British Columbia, with police agencies and road safety advocates continuing to emphasize prevention through enforcement, education, and driver awareness. Abbotsford police say reducing collisions and serious injuries will remain a priority as the city continues to grow.
