During a hearing Monday, Justice Allan Ross approved Dhanda’s release on $700,000 bail, with strict conditions including electronic ankle monitoring and 24-hour house arrest. The Canadian government has announced dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs on approximately $27.6 billion worth of U.S. imports in response to tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly objected to the government granting another furlough to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Dhami said the decision reflects a “double and discriminatory approach” by the government. Former Alberta premiers Jason Kenney and Rachel Notley are joining forces in an effort to keep the province in Canada. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce says the two former political rivals will co-chair its campaign to keep the country united. Kenney became premier in 2019 after his United Conservative Party defeated Notley’s NDP government. Notley says she and Kenney disagree on many issues, but they agree that the separation question expected in the upcoming referendum would be bad for Alberta businesses and comes at the wrong time, amid the ongoing U.S.-Canada trade war.

An 18-year-old man has died following an e-scooter crash in Kamloops, raising renewed concerns about the safety of electric scooters in the city. According to police, the young man was found injured near an e-scooter around 4 a.m. on Aug. 16 near Battle Street and Lee Road. He was taken to hospital for treatment but died from his injuries on Aug. 20. The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Hunter Dennis.
