Canada defeated its archrival the United States 3-2 in overtime in the 4 Nations Face-Off final on Thursday night in what was an emotionally-charged affair for players and fans alike.
The rematch between the two sides was intense, although it did not consist of three fights in the opening nine seconds, as the preliminary round game in Montreal did last Saturday, a 3-1 win for the Americans. Crashed Delta plane cleared from Toronto airport runway
The wreck of a crashed Delta Air Lines jet has been cleared from a runway at Toronto's Pearson International Airport.
The airline says removing the wreckage took several hours on Wednesday.
Delta says it could be weeks before bags from the plane are returned to their owners because of the inspection and cleaning process.
The airline has offered US$30,000 in compensation to passengers who were on the plane, saying the money "has no strings attached."
All 76 passengers and four crew members survived when Delta Flight 4819 crash landed at Pearson on Monday.

Federal government moving ahead with high-speed rail: Trudeau
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the federal government is moving ahead with a high-speed rail network between Quebec City and Toronto.
The Liberal government says the planned rail network will span approximately 1,000 kilometres and reach speeds of up to 300 kilometres an hour.
There will be stops in Toronto, Peterborough, Ottawa, Montréal, Laval, Trois-Rivières and Quebec City.
The government says the new system will slash travel times in half — getting travellers from Montréal to Toronto in three hours.
The official name of the high-speed rail service will be Alto.

Mark Carney trouncing Liberal leadership rivals at fundraising
Former central banker Mark Carney is dominating the fundraising field in the race for the federal Liberal leadership.
And his main rival appears to be trailing at the back of the pack.
Financial data published by Elections Canada shows Carney raised $1.9 million for his leadership bid — more than eight times the sum collected by his nearest fundraising competitor.
Former Liberal House leader Karina Gould raised about $236,000 from more than 600 donors, while Montreal businessman Frank Baylis raised more than $227,000 from 59 people.

GST Exemption for Canadians Ends February 15: Impact on Businesses and Consumers
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s GST exemption for Canadians will end tomorrow, February 15, at midnight. All businesses will resume charging GST on previously exempt goods and services.
To ease the burden of inflation, the Trudeau government introduced a two-month GST exemption from December 14 to February 15 on items such as groceries, restaurant meals, children’s clothing, toys, diapers, and even beer and wine. The government also encouraged provinces to temporarily waive their taxes during this period.

2nd batch of 119 Indian deportees to land in Amritsar on Saturday
A special flight from the United States carrying 119 deported Indian nationals is expected to arrive at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar on Saturday. This is the second US flight carrying the deportees to India following a crackdown on illegal immigrants by the US government.
According to sources, the majority of deportees are from Punjab, with 67 individuals returning to the state. Haryana follows with 33 deportees. Gujarat accounts for eight, Uttar Pradesh three, and Goa, Maharashtra and Rajasthan two each. Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have one returnee each

Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly is travelling to Europe today. Canada’s premiers are in Washington today to meet with lawmakers, business groups and lobbyists in a joint effort to push back on U.S. President Donald Trump's plans for devastating duties.

Saint John, Calgary are the cities that would be hit hardest by U.S. tariffs: report
Calgary, Saint John, N.B. and Windsor, Ont. are the Canadian cities that would be hit the hardest by U.S. tariffs, says new research by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
Using Statistics Canada trade data, the organization came up with a "U.S. Tariff Exposure Index" to look at the potential impact of threatened American tariffs on 41 Canadian cities.
The research looked at Statistics Canada export data in light of U.S. President Donald Trump's initial threat to impose 25 per cent across-the-board tariffs on all goods entering the U.S. from Canada and Mexico.
