Supreme Court Gives Rajpal Yadav 2 Weeks to Repay Dues

The Supreme Court on Tuesday gave actor Rajpal Yadav a final two-week opportunity to come up with a concrete proposal to repay money allegedly owed to a private company. The court also directed him to deposit ₹2 crore with the court registry.

The complainant alleged that Yadav had issued seven cheques worth ₹1.05 crore each in 2013 to settle financial assistance of ₹5 crore provided for a film in 2010. The company claims that the cheques were dishonoured.

According to the complainant, under an agreement reached between the parties in 2012, Yadav, his wife and their company had agreed to repay around ₹11 crore, including interest.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohan observed that while Yadav may be adept at acting, “this is a court.” The bench noted that its earlier orders had not been complied with and said Yadav’s conduct did not inspire confidence. However, the court decided to give him one final opportunity.
