Punjabi actress Neeru Bajwa has announced that screenings of her film Thappi will be suspended amid ongoing protests over the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta in Mansa, Punjab. In a message posted in Punjabi on Facebook, Bajwa said the film, which was released worldwide on October 16, would no longer be screened in theatres starting Monday. “Whatever we are today is because of Punjab and Punjabiat. The purpose of making Thappi was also to bring life back to Punjab’s fields. Cinema is for the people and can never be bigger than them,” she wrote.
