India’s women’s team suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Netherlands in the second-round match of the Field Hockey World Cup today. However, despite the loss, India’s hopes of qualifying for the semifinals are not completely over.
The Netherlands scored in the second and 38th minutes of the match, while India failed to find the net. To qualify for the semifinals, India must finish among the top two teams in Group E.
Following today’s defeat, India have slipped to fourth place in the group. The Netherlands are currently first, followed by China in second and Australia in third.
India will face Australia on Sunday. If India manage to beat Australia and the result of the Netherlands vs. China match goes in India’s favour, the Indian team could still qualify for the World Cup semifinals.
