Donald Trump's aides say, US president is showing little interest in the growing COVID-19 crisis

Donald Trump's aides say the US president is showing little interest in the growing COVID-19 crisis as he fumes about his election loss to Joe Biden. That's as new cases are skyrocketing, with 151,000 new infections recorded yesterday. The pandemic has killed more than 240-thousand Americans and infected more than 10 million people in the US. California has become the second state to record 1 million confirmed coronavirus infections. Texas reached the mark earlier this week.

Biden announces virus advisory board, promises science-based approach on COVID-19

President-elect Joe Biden is imploring Americans to wear masks to slow the spread of the coronavirus, even as he cheered news about the promising development of a vaccine being developed by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer. Biden, in remarks after meeting with his newly formed coronavirus advisory board, cautioned that Americans still face ``a dark winter'' and need to be aggressive about mask wearing and social distancing as infections continue to surge around the country. Even if Pfizer gets approval from regulators for emergency use of a vaccine, Biden noted it could be months before the vaccin

They include how long the vaccine's effects last and if it also protects older people as well as younger people. Ottawa has signed a procurement deal with Pfizer for 20-million doses of the vaccine. Men with guns arrested near vote counting in Philadelphia

Two men will be charged with firearms offences after being arrested near the convention centre in Philadelphia, where election ballots are being counted. Police got a tip that people armed with weapons were on their way to the site in a Hummer truck. Investigators say the men told police that the Hummer, spotted by officers near the centre, was their vehicle. Police found an additional firearm inside the truck. Philadelphia police said they arrested two men Thursday for not having permits to carry the guns they were armed with near the state convention centre, where vote counting is ongoing.

Biden leads Trump in Pennsylvania's vote count

Democrat Joe Biden is leading President Donald Trump in the battleground state of Pennsylvania. By Friday morning, Biden overtook Trump in the number of ballots counted in the state, which Trump must win to have a shot at reelection. Biden leads by about 9,000 votes. The contest is still too early for The Associated Press to call. Votes in the state are still being counted. Trump's lead dwindled after Election Day when state officials began processing mail-in ballots, a form of voting that has skewed heavily in Biden's favour. Trump spent months claiming, without proof, that voting by mail wo

Trump says, Democrats are trying to "steal" the election; Biden is urging people to have patience

US President Donald Trump is renewing his unfounded claims that Democrats are trying to steal the election from him. He did not back up his claim with any details or evidence but is calling for the "legal votes" to only be counted. State and federal officials have not reported any instances of widespread voter fraud. Trump claims, without evidence, that the ballot-counting process is unfair and corrupt. The process across the US has been running smoothly, and the count is ongoing in several battleground states. Democrat Joe Biden is urging patience, while President Donald Trump is pursing his

B.C. sees slight job decline in October amid U.S. tariff uncertainty, says minister

British Columbia recorded a small drop in employment last month as global trade tensions and new U.S. tariffs added pressure to key sectors, according to the province’s jobs minister. Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth Ravi Kahlon said Friday that the October Labour Force Survey from Statistics Canada shows a decline of about 2,900 jobs in B.C., largely due to losses in construction and forestry. He linked those decreases to “unjustified” tariffs imposed by the United States, which he said have hurt workers and businesses across the province. Despite the monthly dip, Kahlon noted that
