Men with guns arrested near vote counting in Philadelphia

Two men will be charged with firearms offences after being arrested near the convention centre in Philadelphia, where election ballots are being counted. Police got a tip that people armed with weapons were on their way to the site in a Hummer truck. Investigators say the men told police that the Hummer, spotted by officers near the centre, was their vehicle. Police found an additional firearm inside the truck. Philadelphia police said they arrested two men Thursday for not having permits to carry the guns they were armed with near the state convention centre, where vote counting is ongoing.

Biden leads Trump in Pennsylvania's vote count

Democrat Joe Biden is leading President Donald Trump in the battleground state of Pennsylvania. By Friday morning, Biden overtook Trump in the number of ballots counted in the state, which Trump must win to have a shot at reelection. Biden leads by about 9,000 votes. The contest is still too early for The Associated Press to call. Votes in the state are still being counted. Trump's lead dwindled after Election Day when state officials began processing mail-in ballots, a form of voting that has skewed heavily in Biden's favour. Trump spent months claiming, without proof, that voting by mail wo

Trump says, Democrats are trying to "steal" the election; Biden is urging people to have patience

US President Donald Trump is renewing his unfounded claims that Democrats are trying to steal the election from him. He did not back up his claim with any details or evidence but is calling for the "legal votes" to only be counted. State and federal officials have not reported any instances of widespread voter fraud. Trump claims, without evidence, that the ballot-counting process is unfair and corrupt. The process across the US has been running smoothly, and the count is ongoing in several battleground states. Democrat Joe Biden is urging patience, while President Donald Trump is pursing his

Biden campaign urges supporters: 'Stay patient', confident of winning Georgia

Joe Biden's campaign is expressing optimism at the ultimate result of the election but warning supporters to ``stay patient and stay calm'' as vote counting continues. Biden campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon said Thursday on a briefing call with reporters that ``the story of today is going to be a very positive story'' for their campaign, but cautioned that as the counting continues, ``we need to allow it to get done and get done well.'' She says the campaign expects their lead to fluctuate in some states as more votes come in. O'Malley Dillon also charged that legal challenges by Presiden

Biden wins Michigan, nears 270 electoral votes

Democrat Joe Biden has carried Michigan and its 16 electoral votes, further dismantling Donald Trump's Rust Belt wall of support that helped deliver him the presidency four years ago. The flip from red back to blue was a huge blow to Trump, whose victories in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania in 2016 sent him to the White House. Biden also carried Wisconsin, though Pennsylvania hasn't been called yet. Biden's victory in Michigan pushes him to 264 Electoral College votes, six short of the 270 needed to win the White House. Trump is at 214 electoral votes. Nevada, which has six electoral vot

Biden declared winner in Wisconsin; Trump's campaign has requested a recount

Joe Biden has defeated President Donald Trump in battleground Wisconsin, securing the state's 10 electoral votes and reclaiming a key part of the blue wall that slipped away from Democrats four years ago. The Associated Press called Wisconsin for Biden after election officials in the state said all outstanding ballots had been counted, save for a few hundred in one township and an expected small number of provisional ballots. Trump's campaign has requested a recount. Statewide recounts in Wisconsin have historically changed the vote tally by only a few hundred votes. Biden leads by .624 perce

Joe Biden's campaign says it will fight any efforts by US President Donald Trump's campaign to go to the Supreme Court

Joe Biden's campaign says it will fight any efforts by US President Donald Trump's campaign to go to the Supreme Court to prevent ballots from being counted. Trump has said he will be going to the US Supreme Court and that he wants ``all voting to stop.'' In a statement early today, Biden's campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon calls those words ``outrageous, unprecedented and incorrect.'' The Associated Press has not declared a winner in the presidential race. There are still hundreds of thousands of votes left to be counted, and the outcome hinges on a handful of uncalled battleground states

IS attack on Afghan university leaves 22 dead, 22 wounded

A brazen attack by Islamic State militants who stormed the Kabul University has left at least 22 dead and 22 wounded in the Afghan capital. The assault sparked a hours-long gunbattle on the school's campus on Monday. The Interior Ministry says all three attackers were ultimately killed in the ensuing firefight at the country's largest school. The Taliban promptly issued a statement denying they were behind the assault. The attack came as the insurgents are continuing peace talks with the U.S.-backed government in Qatar, with the aim to help the U.S. finally withdraw from Afghanistan. Later in

Alberta to Add Citizenship Markers to Driver’s Licences

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says her government is adding proof of citizenship markers to driver's licences and other forms of identification to streamline services and prevent election fraud. She says this will make it easier for students and the disabled to get funding given they have to prove their citizenship to do so. She says the goal is also to protect democracy to make sure that only citizens vote. Smith says non-citizens like permanent residents who can get a driver's licences will not have any notation on their IDs. Alberta Health Care numbers will also be added to driver'

Loss of carbon tax boosts B.C. deficit as economic growth set to slide

British Columbia's forecasted deficit has hit a record high of almost $11.6 billion for the first quarter of the 2025-2026 fiscal year, largely due to the elimination of the carbon tax and amid ``global trade uncertainty.'' Finance Minister Brenda Bailey is also projecting higher deficits than she previously forecasted through to 2028 as growth slides, while the province's debt is predicted to spike by almost $60 billion over the next two fiscal years. Bailey's fiscal update revises gross domestic product growth down to 1.5 per cent from 1.8 per cent in 2025, and to 1.3 per cent fro
