FIFA looks to start World Cup in Qatar 1 day earlier
The World Cup in Qatar could start one day earlier than scheduled with FIFA looking at a plan to let the host nation play Ecuador on Nov. 20, a person familiar with the proposal told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
The person said a decision could be made within days by a committee comprised of FIFA president Gianni Infantino and the heads of the six continental soccer bodies.
The proposal has been favored by Qatari officials and South American soccer body CONMEBOL, with talks also involving the Qatar and Ecuador soccer federations, the person said.
The World Cup is set to open on Nov. 21,

Monkeypox vaccinations open across Alberta as confirmed cases rise
The Alberta government is making the monkeypox vaccine available in more communities.
Along with Edmonton and Calgary, people can also get the shot in Edson, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Red Deer and St. Paul.
Health Canada says there are more than 1,000 confirmed cases in the country, mainly in Quebec and Ontario.
The province says there are 19 confirmed cases in Alberta.

Police say part of stolen 'Cool Runnings' bobsled has been found, returned to owner
Calgary police say they have located part of a stolen bobsled that appeared in the 1993 movie "Cool Runnings" and returned it to its rightful owner.
Police say in a social media post that the Jamaican bobsled was stolen in October 2020 from Ranchman's country bar in southeast Calgary, which has since closed.
They say officers had been looking for the sled, valued at about $10,000, and finally found part of it in northeast Calgary after receiving a recent tip from the public.
Police say it was returned to the owner and officers continue to look for the rest of the sled.

Family of Saskatoon woman being held in U.S. urges Canada to extradite her home
Family of a Saskatchewan woman being held in custody in the United States say they want her extradited quickly to deal with her charges in Canada. Dawn Walker, who is 48, is facing two charges in Oregon related to identity fraud along with two charges in Saskatoon of child abduction and public mischief. She was arrested Friday when she and her seven-year-old son were found in Oregon City after a two-week search. Police allege Walker was involved in a custody dispute with the boy's father and faked her death and that of her son before illegally entering the US.

IHIT called out after shooting in Guildford
Surrey RCMP is advising the public of a shooting in the Guildford area that left one person deceased and requesting anyone with information to contact police. On August 9, 2022, at approximately 2:20 p.m., Surrey RCMP received the report of shots fired at a taxi in a parking lot in the 14800 block of 108 Avenue. Upon arrival, it was determined that both occupants of the vehicle had been shot. Kamloops: Police seek information in sexual interference investigation
A series of sexual interference allegations has local police reaching out to the community to see if anyone has more information related to the investigation. In late July, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment began an investigation following a report involving workplace sexual assaults on an underage employee. Man arrested after charging at officer with hatchet in New Westminster
On August 8th at approximately noon, the New Westminster Police Department received a call from a witness advising there was a man walking through the Brow of the Hill neighbourhood with a hatchet. A patrol officer quickly located the suspect and attempted to speak with him. However, the suspect raised the hatchet in a threatening manner and charged at the officer. The officer was able to avoid the suspect, who then fled the area.
