Police say Winnipeg teacher charged with sexual assault

A 27-year-old teacher at a Winnipeg high school has been charged with sexual exploitation and sexual assault of a student. Police say the offences involving the 16-year-old student at Grant Park High School happened between Dec. 1 and Feb. 8. The Winnipeg School Division is co-operating with police but a spokesperson would not say whether the woman is still employed as a teacher. Const. Ontario confirms seventh coronavirus case; man had travelled to Iran

Ontario health officials say the province now has a seventh confirmed case of the novel coronavirus.The chief medical officer of health says the newest patient is a man in his 50s who had travelled to Iran.Dr. David Williams says the man arrived in Toronto on Tuesday and went to the emergency department of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre the next day.He says proper protocols went into place at the hospital and the man was isolated as he was tested for the virus known as COVID-19.The man was sent home the same day to recover and has been in self-isolation since then.This marks the country's

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority CEO Robin Silvester says the number of cancelled sailings is on the rise as large parts of the Chinese economy are shut down due to the outbreak. Surrey: pedestrian hit and killed on Highway 17

A pedestrian was hit and killed while crossing Highway 17 in Surrey last evening. Surrey RCMP say it happened at about 6 p.m. and the unidentified victim died at the scene. The driver remained at the scene and police say that person is co-operating. Police haven't said if the victim was in a marked crosswalk on the usually busy route and investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.

A blackout has brought much of Spain and Portugal to a standstill, affecting millions of people. The Spanish power distributor calls it ``exceptional and extraordinary." It says restoring power fully could take six to 10 hours. The cause was not immediately clear Monday. Spain's prime minister said a ``strong oscillation'' in the European grid was behind the outage. Man dies after car jumps curb, crashes into seven vehicles in Surrey, B.C.

A man has died in a crash involving eight vehicles in Surrey, B.C., after he suffered what investigators believe to be a medical emergency while driving. Police say the crash happened just before noon near the intersection of Fraser Highway and 64 Avenue, where attending emergency responders initially reported the collision. The sexual assault trial of five former members of Canada's world junior hockey team has begun today in London, Ont. Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Dillon Dube and Callan Foote have all pleaded not guilty to sexual assault.
