Canada's Camryn Rogers unleashed a hammer throw yesterday that soared straight into the history books. The 23 year old from Richmond, BC, threw 75.52 metres to win silver at the world track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon. It was not only Canada's first world medal in women's hammer, but the country's first women's podium finish in a field event. American Brooke Andersen won the gold and Janee Kassanavoid of the U.S. claimed bronze. Jillian Weir of Kingston, Ont., was fifth with a throw of 72.41.

There were tears shed by some in an Ottawa courtroom as one of the so-called Freedom Convoy protest organizers was granted bail. Pat King, wearing a plaid shirt and his hair in a long braid, nodded as the judge's reasons were handed down. In the courtroom, supporters wearing T-shirts that said ``Free Pat King'' brought tissues to their eyes. King will have to leave Ottawa in 24 hours to return to Alberta, where he will be required to live with a surety. He's facing charges including mischief, intimidation, obstructing police and disobeying a court order.

Another NDP cabinet minister has ruled out running for the job to replace Premier John Horgan. Finance Minister Selina Robinson says she's looked ahead in her life for the next five to eight years and has decided to pass on the opportunity. Robinson says in a tweet that she has seriously considered the job and thanks those who offered their financial support or to work on her campaign. The New Democratic Party announced over the weekend that voting for Horgan's successor will start November 13th with the results released December third.

Canada's emergency preparedness minister says Ottawa is providing $870 million to support recovery efforts after destructive flooding in British Columbia last fall. EDMONTON - An appeal by a former Edmonton nightclub employee who was found guilty of sexually assaulting five women has been dismissed. Matthew McKnight, who is in his mid-30s, was accused of sexually assaulting 13 women ranging in age from 17 to 22 between 2010 and 2016. A jury found him guilty in five of the assaults in January 2020 and he was later sentenced to eight years in prison.
