Bharat Bhushan Ashu sent to police remand till August 27
Former minister and Congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu was sent to Police remand till Saturday, August 27.
The Vigilance Bureau had arrested him in the foodgrains transportation tenders scam on Monday.
The case pertains to the allotment of transportation tenders allegedly on the basis of fake registration numbers of vehicles. Meanwhile, Congress workers also protested outside the Vigilance Bureau office in Ludhiana over his arrest.
A spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau claimed that accused contractor Telu Ram has already been arrested in this and is on police remand.

Islamabad High Court issues show-cause notice to Imran Khan
Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to PTI chairman Imran Khan after taking up contempt of court proceedings against him for threatening Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry during a public rally.
The IHC bench comprised Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Babar Sattar and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, Geo tv reported.
Meanwhile, the court summoned Imran Khan in personal capacity on August 31 and forwarded the case to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, seeking inclusion of more judges in the bench.

Days after CBI filed a case against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia over alleged corruption in the 2021-22 excise policy, Enforcement Directorate (ED) has registered a money laundering case against him.

IIO investigating police involved death in Vancouver
BC's police watchdog says it's investigating a police-involved death in Vancouver. The Independent Investigations Office says police received a report of a man acting erratically this morning. Vancouver police say the man went into medical distress after he was taken into custody following an ``interaction'' with officers and died at the scene. The IIO says it has begun an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions played in the man's death.

Police say the driver of an SUV that struck a wedding celebration in West Vancouver on Saturday, killing two people, remains in hospital as investigators look into whether speed or a medical incident was involved in the crash. Shooting followed by a car chase and vehicle fire in Surrey
RCMP are investigating after an apparent shooting followed by a car chase and vehicle fire last night in the Newton neighbourhood of Surrey. Mounties say a silver SUV was chasing another vehicle described as a newer-model black sedan. They say in a release that shots are believed to have been fired from the sedan and that the silver SUV was found engulfed in flames soon afterwards. Anyone with dashcam footage from the incident in the area of 68th Avenue between 151st and 152nd streets around 10:30 p-m is being asked to contact police.
