An adult and two youths in custody for suspected involvement in the death of a man in Abbotsford
Police say an adult and two youths are in custody for ``suspected involvement'' in the death of a 41-year-old man last night in Abbotsford. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the victim was attacked near the parking lot of a large shopping mall but it has not released a cause of death. I-HIT says the victim has no link to gangs and the attack is believed to have been an isolated incident. Sergeant David Lee says police are still searching for key evidence even though arrests have been made and anyone with dashcam or surveillance video is asked to contact the homicide team.

One person dead after ammonia leak at industrial park in Kamloops, B.C.
The City of Kamloops says one person has died in hospital following an ammonia leak at an industrial park. A spokeswoman with BC Emergency Health Services has previously said one person was taken to hospital in critical condition and two others were there in stable condition. She says six other patients in stable condition were assessed at the scene after five paramedic crews and two supervisors responded to a call at about 10:30 a.m. The city says in a written statement that the RCMP and firefighters responded to the scene and several businesses were evacuated. Ray Liotta, 'Goodfellas' and 'Field of Dreams' star, dies
Actor Ray Liotta best known for playing mobster Henry Hill in ``Goodfellas'' and baseball player Shoeless Joe Jackson in ``Field of Dreams'' has died at the age of 67. Representatives for Liotta tell NBC and the Hollywood Reporter that he died in his sleep last night in the Dominican Republic, where he was filming a new movie. Liotta was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1954, and was adopted out of an orphanage when he was six months old.

The association has issued a statement making it clear the event will proceed as planned. It describes the shooting in Uvalde as the act of a ``lone, deranged criminal'' and suggests schools need to be more secure. 19 children and 2 teachers were killed in the mass shooting, all of them inside the same fourth-grade classroom.

Former B.C. legislature clerk to be sentenced July 4 for $1,900 in misspending
A former clerk of the B.C. legislature is set to be sentenced on July 4 after he was found guilty of fraud and breach of trust. The fraud charge against Craig James was stayed last week because it was related to the same set of evidence involving nearly $1,900 in claims he made for work attire, so a conviction was not entered on that count. Calgary man sentenced to 12 years in prison
A Calgary man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for terrorism-related acts with the militant group Islamic State.
Thirty-six-year-old Hussein Borhot pleaded guilty last month to participating in terrorism group activity and kidnapping for a terrorist group while in Syria.
A judge accepted a joint submission from Crown and defence lawyers, who recommended eight years on the first count and another four years for the kidnapping.
The judge also imposed a lifetime firearms ban and ordered Borhot's D-N-A be submitted to a national database.

UK touts help for energy bills; seeks to forget 'partygate'
Britain's Conservative government has unveiled a $19 billion package to ease a severe cost-of-living squeeze. Treasury chief Rishi Sunak said Thursday that the government would introduce a temporary windfall tax on the profits of oil and gas firms.

Powerful earthquake shakes southern Peru
The U.S. Geological Survey said a magnitude 7.2 earthquake shook southern Peru on Thursday, though there were no immediate reports of damage or injury.
The 7:02 a.m. (1202 GMT) quake was centered 13.1 kilometers (8.1 miles) east-southeast of Azangaro, but was fairly deep — 217.8 kilometers (135.3 miles) beneath the surface.
