Langley RCMP appeal for footage, witnesses after fatal B.C. highway crash
Police in Langley, B.C., say a motorcyclist has died after a crash on Highway 1 on Saturday evening.
Langley RCMP say emergency responders were called to the scene of a serious crash that happened between 264th and 248th Street just before 8:30 p.m.
Police say BC Emergency Health Services and firefighters from the Township of Langley arrived quickly to help, but the motorcyclist died at the scene.
Mounties say collision analysts, BC Highway Patrol and Langley RCMP are now investigating.
They say westbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours.

Finance and foreign ministers in Mexico to talk trade ahead of Carney's visit
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand and Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne are in Mexico to meet with President Claudia Sheinbaum to talk economic growth, trade and security.
Their trip is happening ahead of Prime Minister Mark Carney's planned visit to Mexico to meet with Sheinbaum.
The U.S. hit Canada on Friday with a 35 per cent tariff on goods not compliant with the Canada-United States-Mexico agreement on trade, known as CUSMA, while Mexico received a 90-day reprieve from threatened higher levies.
CUSMA is scheduled for a mandatory review next year.

Carney scheduled to visit B.C. Interior Tuesday
Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to be in Kelowna, B.C., for an announcement at a lumber facility on Tuesday after attending the Vancouver Pride parade on the weekend and touring a military facility on Vancouver Island on Monday.
Carney toured the Canadian Forces Maritime Experimental and Test Ranges facility near Nanoose Bay, outside Nanaimo, with officials from the Canadian Navy.
He toured the Royal Canadian Navy vessel Sikanni accompanied by Navy Commander Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee and Commanding Officer Craig Piccolo from the testing facility.

Three facing smuggling-related charges after 44 migrants intercepted in Quebec: CBSA
Canada Border Services Agency says it has arrested and charged three alleged smugglers after police intercepted a truck carrying 44 foreign nationals in southern Quebec over the weekend.
CBSA says RCMP and Quebec provincial police intercepted the vehicle with dozens of people aboard near Stanstead, Que. overnight between Saturday to Sunday.
The agency says Ogulcan Mersin, 25, and Dogan Alakus and Firat Yuksek, both 31, have been charged with inducing, aiding or abetting someone to commit an offence under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act as well as assisting people to enter Canada out

Brazil’s Supreme Court has ordered the house arrest for former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is on trial for allegedly leading a coup attempt after losing the 2022 election.
Prosecutors accuse Bolsonaro of heading a criminal organization that plotted to overturn the election, including plans to kill President Lula and a Supreme Court justice. Monday's order follows one from the top court, which last month ordered Bolsonaro to wear an electronic ankle monitor and imposed a curfew on his activities while the proceedings are underway.

Dominic LeBlanc, the minister responsible for Canada-US trade, says that our trade talks with Washington will continue in the coming weeks, his comments come after President Donald Trump raised tariffs on Canada from 25 percent to 35 percent.
LeBlanc, who was in Washington during the time, said that no development is expected in the near future. Prime Minister Mark Carney's minister said that he will speak to US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick next week and that the two will meet face-to-face in late August to discuss the issue.

Charges laid in August 2024 homicide of Dillan Unger in Langley
Charges have been laid following an investigation into an August 2024 homicide in Langley, British Columbia.
On August 2, 2024, at 12:46 a.m., Langley RCMP responded to a report of gun shots in the 7000-block of 202B Street in Langley. Two men suffering from gun shot wounds were subsequently located at the hospital. One of the men succumbed to his injuries and the second was released from hospital.
To further the investigation, IHIT identified the victim as 41-year-old Dillan Unger of Langley.

Falling tree kills mother, 26, and five-month-old baby at B.C. campground
A mother and her five-month-old baby have been killed by a tree that fell in a Vancouver Island campground.
Police say emergency responders were called to the scene in Cumberland, B.C., on Thursday afternoon.RCMP say that the 26-year-old mother died at the scene and the infant was taken to hospital but did not survive.They say there is no criminality suspected in the initial investigation, and no further details on the case will be released.BC Emergency Health Services says they received a call for ambulances to attend in the 1100 block of Comox Lake Road, the address for Cumberland Lake Park
