Four post-secondary institutions team up for new campus in Langford, B.C.
A unique collaboration between four post-secondary institutions in British Columbia will establish a new campus on the Vancouver Island city of Langford. The partnership between the University of Victoria, Royal Roads University, Camosun College and the Justice Institute of B.C. will educate up to 1,300 students when it's completed by 2035. The project includes an almost $78-million investment from the provincial government, while Royal Roads is contributing $19 million for the land purchase and capital costs and Langford about $27 million in infrastructure. The Conservative leadership candidates who decided to show up for the last official debate of the race began by reflecting on what they've heard from Canadians throughout the contest. Former Quebec premier Jean Charest started his opening statement by commending candidates Scott Aitchison and Roman Baber for appearing at the event. Pierre Poilievre and Leslyn Lewis decided to skip, a decision Charest compared to a fish not wanting to swim in the ocean. Charest says Conservatives feel tired of losing federal elections and pitched himself as the only candidate who could change that record.

Police arrest driver in early morning Parliament Hill crash
A driver has been arrested after what Ottawa police describe as an unauthorized vehicle driving into the front gates of Parliament Hill early this morning. Police say a vehicle rammed into the gates outside the legislature at about 3:30 a-m local time and security stopped it from entering the grounds. No criminal charges have yet been laid. The incident appears to be unrelated to another crash later this morning that saw an amphibious tour bus busting into the gates outside the unoccupied official residence of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Hail as big as tennis balls, softballs and eggs fell in Alberta: Environment Canada
Environment and Climate Change Canada says hail ranging from the size of a pea to a softball fell in central Alberta on Monday.
Sara Hoffman, who is a meteorologist with the agency, says although the storm that passed through the Rocky Mountain House and Red Deer areas wasn't record breaking, the size of the hail was bigger than expected.
Environment Canada issued a tornado watch in the afternoon that warned large hail might fall from the sky later in the evening.

31-year-old woman tests positive for monkeypox in Delhi
A 31-year-old woman tested positive for Monkeypox in the national capital on Wednesday, taking India's tally to nine.
This is the first case of the disease among women in India.
She is under treatment in one of the government hospitals in Delhi.
Earlier on Tuesday, another 35-year-old Nigerian man living in Delhi, with no recent travel history, tested positive for monkeypox.
The patient is admitted to Lok Nayak Jaiprakash hospital which comes under the government of Delhi.
India has reported 9 monkeypox cases so far, 5 from Kerala and 4 from Delhi.

Woman charged with manslaughter after man found in stairwell, Edmonton police say
Police say they have charged a woman in the death of a man in central Edmonton over the weekend.
Edmonton police say officers responded Sunday to a call of a man in a stairwell.
They say the man was found unresponsive and pronounced dead on scene.
Police say a 41-year-old woman was arrested and charged with manslaughter.
They have identified the victim as 38-year-old Christopher McMullen.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday sealed the Young Indian office at the Herald House building in the national capital.
ED sealed the Young Indian office at the Herald House building in Delhi as no one was available in the office during the search and thus they were not able to complete the search.
The order put outside the Young Indian office reads that the "premises not be opened without prior permission" from the agency.
Earlier reports said that the Herald House office was sealed.

Farmer unions call off proposed protest against Punjab govt after 'most of the demands' accepted
The farmer unions on Tuesday called off their proposed protest against the Punjab government after meeting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann who accepted "most of the demands".
The decision was taken after a meeting with the Chief Minister at the Punjab Bhawan.
Notably, several farmer organisations including Bharti Kisan Union (Sidhupur) had announced to protest against the Mann government on many issues which included the non-payment of sugarcane dues.

27 Chinese military aircraft enter Taiwan's air defence zone
China sent 27 aircraft to Taiwan's air defence identification zone (ADIZ), the island's Defence Ministry said on Wednesday hours after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi left Taipei following a high-stakes visit that has spiked tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
As many as six J-11 fighter jets, five J-16 multirole fighters and 16 SU-30 multirole fighters entered the air defence zone today.
