NDP's Jagmeet Singh rules out coalition government with Liberals after next election
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is ruling out the possibility of forming a coalition government with the Liberals if no party wins a clear majority after the next federal election.
Singh says in a year-end interview with The Canadian Press that the idea is off the table for the New Democrats, even though the two parties have been working closely together.
They signed a deal in March 2022 in which the NDP agreed to support the minority Liberals on key votes in Parliament in exchange for action on NDP policy priorities.
The collaboration has so far led to the introduction of a national dental-care prog

Last Canadian missing after Hamas attack, Judih Weinstein Haggai, declared dead
The family of the only Canadian citizen who was still missing after Hamas militants conducted a brutal assault on Israel has confirmed her death. A relative says Judih Weinstein Haggai died on Oct. 7, the day of the attacks that killed an estimated 1,200 people, and her body is being held in the Gaza Strip. Calgary man dead after falling through ice on Bow River
A 61-year-old man fell through the ice of the Bow River to the west of Calgary on Christmas Day and died, according to RCMP.
Stoney Nakoda RCMP received a report about a man in the water near the bridge in Mînî Thnî, formerly known as Morley, roughly 40 minutes away from the city on Dec. 25.
When emergency personnel arrived, the man was already under water, they say, and a rescue boat team was unable to find him.
Const. Kelsey Davidge tells CityNews the man was recovered dead from the river on Dec. 26. Mounties believe he was taking photos before he fell through.

One dead, one missing after teens fall through the ice on the Rideau River in Ottawa
Ottawa police say one youth is dead and the search continues for a second after they fell through the ice on the Rideau River in Ottawa's south end.
Emergency crews responded to a call at 11:44 p.m. Wednesday for four youth who had fallen through the ice along Nicolls Island Road near Manotick.
Police say two youths were rescued by first responders and transported to hospital. A 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy were treated for mild hypothermia, according to paramedics. Head-on crash kills 6 and critically injures 3 on North Texas highway
Six people are dead and three others critically injured after a head-on crash on a north Texas highway. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened late Tuesday near the town of Cleburne. Investigators believe a southbound pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old entered the northbound lanes in a no-passing zone and slammed into a minivan. Quebec reaches tentative deals with all 'common front' labour unions
The Quebec government has reached tentative agreements on working conditions with all the unions that are part of a labour alliance representing about 420,000 public sector workers.
The last deal was reached overnight with a union representing around 1,000 professional workers at several school boards near Montreal.
With the latest agreement, Quebec now has deals in principle with all the unions of the so-called "common front," which launched a series of strikes starting in November that shut down schools and delayed surgeries.
