In a major development within the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), senior leader and spokesperson Virsa Singh Valtoha has resigned from the party shortly after the Akal Takht Sahib issued directives for his 10-year expulsion over allegations of misconduct and disrespect toward Sikh leadership.
According to the order issued by Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, Valtoha was to be removed from the primary membership and all organizational posts of the Shiromani Akali Dal within 24 hours. The directive cited “serious violations of Sikh principles” and remarks that allegedly disrespected Sikh institutions.
However, before the party could formally implement the expulsion, Valtoha tendered his resignation, calling it a “self-exit.” In a statement to the media, he said that “anti-Akali forces may be pleased today,” but argued that disciplinary steps should strengthen Sikh unity rather than spread fear or division.
Valtoha, who recently accused Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh of colluding with the BJP and the central government, also urged the Singh Sahibs to release documents he claims prove his allegations.
The controversy has deepened internal tensions within the Shiromani Akali Dal, which is already grappling with leadership disputes and public criticism over its handling of religious and political issues.
