Former Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP's Punjab affairs in-charge Vijay Rupani has died in an Air India plane crash. He was 68. India's Jal Shakti Minister and Gujarat BJP president CR Patil gave this information on Thursday evening.

Air India said that the plane had just taken off from the runway for London's Gatwick Airport when it crashed in a residential area near the airport. According to reports, Rupani was going to London to meet his daughter.

The bodies of several people killed in the crash were found badly charred. Among the passengers was a newlywed named Khushboo Rajpurohit who was going to London to meet her husband. Khushboo, who hails from Rajasthan's Balotra district, got married to Manphool Singh in January this year. She was going to meet her wife in London for the first time after marriage.
