Trump signs new orders restricting some Canadian imports amid trade dispute

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed five new executive orders imposing additional restrictions on certain Canadian imports as trade tensions between the two countries continue to escalate.

According to the information provided, the measures include restrictions on Canadian beer, wine, whisky and vodka, as well as motorcycles, cane molasses and some dairy products. The new restrictions are set to take effect Sept. 29.

The United States has also imposed a 50 per cent tariff on some other Canadian goods, including mattresses and motorboats. Trump has further threatened to bar Canadian companies from participating in U.S. government contracts.

The latest measures come amid an ongoing dispute over retaliatory tariffs. Tensions have increased since Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government stepped back from negotiations with the United States last month.
