Toronto's Black residents received an apology from the city's interim police chief today as the force released previously unseen race-based data on use of force.

Toronto's interim police chief has apologized to the city's Black community as the force releases previously unseen race-based data on its use of force and strip searches. James Ramer says the force has not done enough to ensure everyone receives fair and unbiased treatment.

The apology was swiftly rejected by some, including one activist who noted that Black people have called for years for police to stop treating them unfairly.

Beverly Bain, a spokesperson with the No Pride in Policing Coalition, says the apology was a publicity stunt.

Newly released statistics show Black people faced a disproportionate amount of police enforcement and were more likely to have an officer point a gun at them than white people in the same situation.

As a result, the government decided to postpone the formal launch by one week. Balbir Singh said a trial phase will be conducted before the full rollout to ensure the system is functioning smoothly. Calgary police probe speed, alcohol and drugs in fatal Deerfoot Trail crash

Calgary police are investigating whether speed, alcohol or drugs played a role in a deadly crash on Deerfoot Trail over the weekend that claimed the life of a man in his 50s. Investigators say the man was driving a Nissan Altima southbound on Deerfoot Trail, approaching Glenmore Trail, when the vehicle struck a construction barrier. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the impact was severe enough that the car’s engine was ejected and landed in an adjacent lane of traffic. Shortly afterward, a second vehicle, a Toyota, struck the engine. The driver of that vehicle was take
