Red Chris mine operator Newmont Corporation says the threeCmen were safely brought to the surface at about 10:40 p-m yesterday. Newmont says Kevin Coumbs, Darien Maduke and Jesse Chubaty- contractors for B-C-based Hy-Tech Drilling -- were all in good health and good spirits.
In a statement, Newmont says the men had consistent access to food, water, and air in a refuge chamber. The men had spent more than 60 hours underground in the gold and copper mine, located about 500 kilometres northwest of Terrace,B-C, after being trapped by two rockfalls on Tuesday morning.
Newmont says a comprehensive investigation into what happened is planned, and the results will be shared across the industry.
Premier David Eby arrived at the Connect FM office in the morning today. On this occasion, he expressed his happiness over the success of the rescue. He also said that in the further process, it will be investigated what were the reasons for the incident.
