Immigration Minister Mark Miller has said in an interview that he is considering imposing a cap on international students in the first and second quarters of this year to reduce housing demand.

In the context of increasing number of international students in Canada, he expressed concern and said that this system has actually gone out of control.

However, he did not give information about how much the number of international students could be reduced, but he said that he is working on this plan with the state governments.

The immigration minister's comments come at a time when the Liberal government is facing criticism from opposition parties regarding the housing crisis.

However, Immigration Minister Mark Miller also acknowledged that reducing the number of international students alone will not solve the housing crisis across Canada, so more steps will have to be taken.

According to official data, there were more than 8 lakh students with active visas in Canada during 2022, while the same number was around 275,000 in 2012.
