Suspect charged in connection to alexander street assault and robbery

On February 10th the New Westminster Police Department asked witnesses to come forward following an assault and robbery that occurred on Alexander Street on February 8th. Since that time, New Westminster Police Department patrol officers have made an arrest. This arrest occurred on February 15th when police were called to Alexander Street for a report of two people having a verbal altercation and one person brandishing a knife. When police arrived on scene patrol officers recognized one of the men as the suspect in the assault and robbery that occurred on February 8th.

Nicholas Gelaude, a 33-year-old New Westminster resident, has been charged with the following:

Robbery, section 344 (1)(b) Criminal Code;

Assault while carrying, using, or threatening to us a weapon or imitation weapon, section 267(a) Criminal Code;

"Thanks to patrol officers who were observant and recognized this individual as being involved in an additional police investigation," stated Sergeant Sanjay Kumar. "We’re pleased that Mr. Gelaude was arrested without incident and we want to thank the public for their patience as we deal with these types of investigations."

The second person arrested on February 15th is facing charges for failing to comply with the conditions of a probation order.

Vancouver Granville Street Homicide: 35-Year-Old Man Arrested

Vancouver Police have arrested 35-year-old James Christopher Holmgren after Crown counsel approved a second-degree murder charge in connection with a fatal stabbing on Granville Street last year. Police were called to the area of Granville Street and Helmcken Street on November 17, 2025, after reports of a man suffering from a stab wound. The victim, 20-year-old Aymen Al-Hafidh, was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Holmgren was arrested by Vancouver Police Homicide Unit detectives and remains in custody.
