West Shore RCMP say a 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault investigation involving a youth in Langford.
According to an RCMP release, the incident was reported to have occurred on June 9 at about 3 p.m. near the intersection of Jacklin Road and Station Avenue. Police said a female youth was approached by an unknown adult male at a bus stop, where a brief conversation took place before the youth was allegedly sexually assaulted.
West Shore RCMP issued a public appeal for assistance on June 12 as investigators worked to identify the suspect. Police said officers with the Serious Crime Unit identified and arrested a 33-year-old man on June 17 in relation to the investigation.
Acting Sgt. Meghan Groulx said investigators were assisted by members of the public and local businesses who provided information that helped identify and locate the suspect within six days.
Police said no physical injuries were reported. Investigators noted that sexual violence can have significant emotional and psychological impacts on victims.
The investigation remains ongoing. RCMP said there have been no similar reported incidents connected to the case and no additional information will be released at this time.
