The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified Pritpal Singh as the victim of a fatal shooting outside a Surrey home early April 7.
Police say Singh was shot just after 12:40 a.m. outside a residence on 138A Street near 88 Avenue. Investigators are working with the Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services, and the B.C. Coroners Service to determine a motive. IHIT noted the case does not appear linked to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.
The shooting shook residents in the Newton neighbourhood. Parminder Gill, who lives nearby, told Connect News Team the incident left her family uneasy. “This is a quiet street most of the time. When we heard shots in the middle of the night, everyone was frightened. People want to know if they are safe in their own homes.”
Surrey has recorded a rise in violent crime calls in residential areas over the past two years. City council has debated increasing community policing resources in Newton, and councillors have previously urged more funding for street-level patrols.
IHIT investigators are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact their tip line at 1-877-551-4448 or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
