Surrey Police Service officers are investigating an overnight shooting that damaged a business in the Newton neighbourhood, marking the latest incident amid a series of extortion-related crimes reported in the city.
Police say officers were called to the 8000 block of King George Boulevard at around 2:10 am after reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found a business property that had been damaged by the shooting. No injuries were reported.
The Surrey Police Service Frontline Investigative Support Team attended the scene, and the Major Crime Section has assumed conduct of the investigation. Police say the case is still in its early stages as officers continue to collect evidence and review the scene.
While a motive has not been confirmed, investigators believe the shooting may be connected to an ongoing pattern of extortion attempts that have targeted businesses across Surrey in recent months. Police have previously warned business owners to report suspicious activity as investigations continue.
Anyone with information, including surveillance video or dashcam footage, is asked to contact Surrey Police Service’s non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
