Surrey, B.C. – At the Regular Council Meeting on July 14, Surrey City Council approved the execution of a 30-year lease agreement with Surrey United Soccer Club (SUSC) to build, maintain and operate a new covered soccer practice facility at Cloverdale Athletic Park.
“This is an exciting milestone as we advance our partnership with Surrey United Soccer Club and take the next step in delivering this much-needed practice facility,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “By providing the land for this facility at Cloverdale Athletic Park, we’re creating high-quality, year-round training opportunities that will benefit Surrey athletes of all ages, families and future generations.”
The lease agreement follows Council approval in February 2025 of a partnership framework with SUSC to develop a covered turf area used for year-round practices and training programs. The facility will also be available for broader community use. To advance the project, SUSC has submitted development and building permit applications, which are currently under review. Construction will begin once all permitting requirements are successfully completed.
“Development of this facility will not only support players in the club, but provide a multi-generational opportunity to foster youth soccer in the community,” said Coun. Gordon Hepner, Chair of the Parks, Recreation and Sport Tourism Committee. “It will be a great addition to Cloverdale Athletic Park, complementing the planned conversion of two grass fields into artificial turf fields and a new parking lot.”
