Surrey Extortion Reward Fund and tip line established to combat extortion

Today, Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke and Chief Constable Norm Lipinski (Surrey Police Service chief) announced a reward of up to $250,000 for tips on the increasing number of extortion incidents in Surrey.

Mayor Brenda Locke said the money will be given to those whose information is useful and leads to arrests, prosecutions and convictions in cases. The money will only be given after and in accordance to the value of the information (based on assessing the value of information).

A separate Surrey Extortion tip line has been set up to provide tips. Chief Constable Norm Lipinski said, “the tip line number is 236-485-5149.” The tip line started at 12 noon today and will be open from 9am to 5pm, seven days a week.

Officers speaking different languages will be available for conversation on this tipline.

The prize amount will be decided according to the usefulness of the information given in the tip in arrests etc. This reward (money) is being provided by the City of Surrey.

Chief Constable Norm Lipinski clarified that this is not a replacement for the Tip line 911 or Crime Stoppers.

Mayor Brenda Locke stressed, “those responsible for these incidents will not be spared.” She added, “you will be caught, you will be prosecuted, and you will be held accountable.”

An Australian coroner says a 19-year-old woman from British Columbia drowned after being attacked by a pack of dingoes during an early morning walk on an island off Queensland.
