Surrey 3D-printed firearms lab dismantled, one arrested, police say

Police said the activity falls under Section 102.1 of the Criminal Code of Canada, which addresses the distribution of computer data for illegal firearms manufacturing.

A man has been arrested after police say a clandestine firearms manufacturing operation involving 3D-printed weapons was dismantled in Surrey.

According to a Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia news release, its Illegal Firearms Enforcement Team began investigating in March 2026 into a suspect believed to be producing 3D-printed firearms and sharing schematics online. Police said the activity falls under Section 102.1 of the Criminal Code of Canada, which addresses the distribution of computer data for illegal firearms manufacturing.

Investigators identified a suspect on April 2 and arrested him. With assistance from the Integrated Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team, officers executed a search warrant at a Surrey residence. Police said they seized what they describe as a clandestine firearms lab, including a loaded 3D-printed semi-automatic rifle, six 3D-printed handguns, suppressors, magazines, multiple 3D printers and electronic devices.

Sgt. Sarbjit K. Sangha, a media relations officer with CFSEU-BC, said in the release the investigation reflects efforts to address what police describe as emerging public safety risks linked to unregulated and untraceable firearms.

No charges have been laid. Police said the investigation remains ongoing and that charges will be recommended.
