Jalandhar, October 2, 2026: The office-bearers and members of the Surjit Hockey Society, Jalandhar, have extended their warmest congratulations to the Indian Women’s Hockey Team for winning the Gold Medal at the Asian Games 2026, defeating defending champions China 1–0 in the final on October 2, 2026.
Iqbal Singh Sandhu (PCS Retd.), CEO, Surjit Hockey Society; L.R. Nayyar and L.P.S. Khaira, Working Presidents; Ranbir Singh Tut, Secretary; and sports promoter Surinder Singh Bhapa congratulated the entire Indian team, players, coaching staff, support personnel and Hockey India for this remarkable achievement.
They said that the victory is a historic milestone for Indian women’s hockey, as the team has won the Asian Games gold medal after a gap of 44 years, following India’s previous gold-medal triumph in the 1982 Asian Games held in New Delhi.
The Society particularly appreciated the outstanding performance of the team under the leadership of captain Salima Tete, whose leadership, determination and fighting spirit inspired the entire nation.
They further noted that the Asian Games gold has also secured the Indian women’s hockey team’s direct qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, making the achievement even more significant for the future of Indian hockey.
Iqbal Singh Sandhu, CEO of the Society stated that the historic success of the Indian women’s team will inspire thousands of young girls across the country to take up hockey and pursue the sport at the highest level. The achievement is also a matter of immense pride for all those associated with the promotion and development of hockey in India.
The Society expressed the hope that the Indian women’s hockey team will continue its excellent performance and bring further glory to the country at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The entire nation is proud of our daughters. Their determination, discipline and fighting spirit have once again demonstrated the strength and potential of Indian women’s hockey.
