The Government of Canada's dental care plan could be launched in the early stages before the end of the year, but in the meantime new figures from Statistics Canada have emerged showing that one in three Canadians with dental problems in the 12 months between 2021 and 2022 did not visit the doctor.
The main reason for this is cost and lack of insurance.
According to the report, in a survey of 60,000 Canadians, more than one-third reported having no dental insurance.
Dr. Heather Carr, president of the Canadian Dental Association, said these statistics are alarming because a person's overall health is connected to care.
Statistics Canada official Shawn Brule said the new data could be useful for the National Dental Care Plan, which shows why people are not able to visit the dentist.
It is worth noting that the dental care plan is expected to be launched in the initial phase for Canadians under 18 years of age and seniors.
