According to reports, all six injured students have been hospitalized. Five are reported to be seriously injured, while one is in critical condition.

Phoenix Ikner, a 20-year-old Florida State University student and the son of a longtime sheriff’s deputy, opened fire outside the university's student union on Thursday, killing two non-students and injuring at least six others. The incident occurred around lunchtime, sparking chaos as students and visitors scrambled for safety, some hiding in a bowling alley and even a freight elevator inside the building.

Law enforcement responded quickly to the scene. Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell stated that officers confronted Ikner and shot him after he refused to follow their commands. He was taken into custody and is currently hospitalized.

Authorities say the weapon used in the attack was a former service handgun belonging to Ikner’s mother, who has served with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office for over 18 years and is described as a model employee. Investigators also found additional weapons connected to the shooter.

Florida State University Police Chief Jason Trumbower confirmed that the two people killed were not students, but declined to provide further information about the victims. As of now, police have not identified a motive behind the attack, and the investigation is ongoing.

The campus has since been secured, but all classes and events have been canceled through at least the following day.
