SGPC president urges Prime Minister Modi to reopen Kartarpur Corridor

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has written to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the central government to immediately reopen the Kartarpur Corridor to Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan.

According to an SGPC statement, Dhami said the historic Sikh shrine holds deep religious significance for the global Sikh community, and devotees continue to express a strong desire to visit the site. He noted that the opening of the corridor in November 2019, during the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, fulfilled a long-standing aspiration of Sikhs around the world.

Dhami said the suspension of cross-border travel through the corridor following recent security developments between India and Pakistan has caused disappointment among Sikh devotees worldwide. He urged the Union government to consider the community's appeal with sensitivity and facilitate the resumption of pilgrim access.

The Kartarpur Corridor allows Indian pilgrims to visit Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib, where Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent the final years of his life, without requiring a visa. Any decision to resume operations rests with the governments of India and Pakistan and is subject to prevailing security and diplomatic considerations.
