A Chilliwack RCMP officer is recovering in hospital after a serious two-vehicle collision early Saturday morning on Vedder Road.

Police say the crash occurred around 1:10 a.m. on November 2 when a southbound 2006 Lincoln Zephyr crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a marked 2021 Ford Explorer police vehicle head-on, just north of Stevenson Road.

According to witness accounts, the Lincoln driver was travelling at high speed and driving erratically before the collision. Investigators have ruled out alcohol as a factor.

The officer, who was on duty at the time, activated her emergency alarm following the impact and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 29-year-old Chilliwack man driving the Lincoln was treated for minor injuries and later released.

RCMP say the investigation into the crash continues and no charges have been laid at this time. Police are asking anyone with dashcam footage or additional information to come forward.

Report says Alberta has widest gender pay gap in Canada

Women in Alberta continue to earn less than men than in any other province, according to a new report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA). The report found that women in Alberta earn 64 cents for every dollar earned annually by men, compared with a national average of 72 cents.
