Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has pledged to alter federal drug laws to prevent the opening of supervised drug consumption sites across Canada if his government is formed. He also stated that he would fire bureaucrats who advocate for prescribing alternative drugs in place of traditional prescription medications.

Poilievre made the announcement yesterday during an election campaign in New Westminster, B.C., declaring that the funds currently allocated to supervised consumption sites would be redirected to build new drug treatment centres.

In the meanhile, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh during a visit to Halifax, announced that his government would only provide federal funding for housing construction in cities and towns that implement strict rent controls, aiming to curb rising housing prices.

Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Ford Pickup in Hope

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a Ford pickup truck on Highway 3 in the Hope area of B.C. Wednesday night. Hope RCMP said police received a report of the collision at around 8:38 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, the pedestrian had already died. Just minutes before the crash, police had also received a report of a person walking in the slow lane near the Highway 1 junction on Highway 5. Police said the truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. Corporal Carmen Keener said there were no initial indications that alcohol was a factor.
