Federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre was in Vancouver on Friday as he sought to rally support around ongoing concerns over property rights in British Columbia.
Poilievre accused Prime Minister Mark Carney's Liberal government of failing to adequately defend private property rights, arguing that uncertainty surrounding land ownership issues has left many homeowners concerned about the security of their properties.
The Conservative leader linked those concerns to a recent court decision involving the Cowichan Tribes, which has prompted debate over land ownership and property rights in parts of the province. Poilievre said the federal government did not take a strong enough position in court to protect private property interests.
He also alleged that the federal government is pursuing agreements without sufficient transparency or public consultation, adding that homeowners have not received clear assurances regarding the protection of their property rights.
The comments come amid ongoing discussion about Indigenous land claims and property ownership issues in British Columbia.
