One person has died and RCMP say there is an "undetermined number" of injuries in a crash just outside Hope, B.C. Cpl. Mike Halskov with RCMP Traffic Services says the multi-vehicle crash happened just before 10 a.m.

The statement says an investigation is just beginning, but it appears road conditions were a major factor.

Highway 5 northbound to the Coquihalla is closed at the junction with Highway 3 and there is no word when the route will reopen.

Halskov urges drivers to consider delaying travel plans or to take an alternate route.

DriveBC, the provincial government website providing details about road conditions, shows packed and slushy roads near the junction while Environment Canada shows temperatures in the area feel close to -20 with the wind chill.

Peel Regional Police have arrested three Punjabi youths in Brampton after a traffic stop led to the seizure of an illegal firearm. With this latest seizure, the total number of illegal firearms seized by Peel police this year has reached 112. According to police, at around 2:20 a.m. on August 10, officers stopped a suspicious vehicle in the area of Cedarbrook Road and Edgewater Court. Three people were inside the vehicle. A hit-and-run occurred in downtown Vancouver on Friday night, leaving a 23-year-old woman injured. According to police, the woman was crossing Davie Street and Pacific Boulevard at around 9:30 p.m. on August 21 when she was struck by a blue sedan.
