Police in Abbotsford say nine people were detained after officers responded to a reported shooting Tuesday night at a home in the 33500 block of Cannon Avenue.
According to a news release from the Abbotsford Police Department, patrol officers were called to the area at about 8:00 p.m. and quickly identified a residence known to police that investigators believe is connected to the incident.
Police said several individuals inside the home became uncooperative when officers attempted to evacuate the residence and barricaded themselves inside. Because of the nature of the call and information that firearms were believed to be in the home, the department deployed its Emergency Response Team.
During the operation, officers used distraction devices that produced loud bangs heard by nearby residents. Police said nine people were safely removed from the home and detained. The incident was resolved shortly after midnight, and investigators reported that no injured persons were found.
The residence remains secured while investigators seek a search warrant, which police say they expect to execute later today. No arrests had been made as of publication time, and investigators say the case is in its early stages.
Police also said the incident is not connected to ongoing extortion-related violence reported elsewhere in the Lower Mainland. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Abbotsford Police.
