Mississauga Apartment Fire: Police Officer Among 11 Hospitalized

A police officer and 10 other people were taken to hospital after a suspicious fire broke out early Monday morning at an apartment building in Mississauga.

Peel Regional Police said the fire started in a hallway of a building near Lakeshore Road West and Inverhouse Drive at around 3:30 a.m. Most of those taken to hospital were affected by smoke, while two people suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The injured police officer sustained minor injuries that were unrelated to the fire. Firefighters later brought the blaze under control, allowing some residents to return to their units.

Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services Deputy Chief Ryan Baird said 16 people were rescued from units on the third and fourth floors. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and police are treating the incident as suspicious and continuing their investigation.
