Metro Vancouver Transit Police have arrested a man in connection with an alleged assault that left a 78-year-old woman seriously injured outside Surrey Central Station.
According to Transit Police, the incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28. The woman was walking outside the station when a man approached from behind and allegedly shoved her as he passed. She fell to the ground and struck her head against a nearby wall, suffering a serious head injury. Paramedics transported her to hospital for treatment.
Police said the suspect fled the area following the incident. Investigators later arrested a man who matched the suspect description. Evan Michael Scott Abbott has been charged with aggravated assault and remains in custody pending a bail hearing. The allegations have not been proven in court.
Transit Police said the investigation remains ongoing. Officers also thanked two witnesses who called 911 after seeing the incident, stayed with the victim until emergency crews arrived, and provided statements to investigators.
