Israel has approved a plan to take control of the entire Gaza Strip. If implemented, it would be a major expansion of Israel's military operation in the Palestinian territory and could face widespread international opposition.
According to reports, Israel is expected to implement the plan only after US President Donald Trump's visit next week. Until then, Israel will continue to try to reach a ceasefire and hostage agreement with Hamas.
However, the Israeli army chief says that the operation could endanger the lives of hostages in Gaza. According to reports, Hamas still holds 59 Israeli hostages, of whom 35 have died. Hamas took more than 250 people hostage from Israel in an attack on October 7, 2023.
