HMPV Increases Concern in India, More Cases Reported

There have been 8 reported cases of HMPV, a virus similar to the coronavirus, in India. On Tuesday, two cases were reported in Nagpur, Maharashtra, where a 13-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy were found to be infected.

Both children had persistent cold and fever. When tested at a private lab, both tested positive for HMPV.

However, neither required hospitalization. After receiving treatment, their condition is now under control.

Following reports of infections in four states, Health Minister JP Nadda stated that HMPV is not a new virus and that the government is closely monitoring the situation.

It is important to note that when infected with the HMPV virus, patients display symptoms similar to the common cold and Covid-19. The virus primarily affects young children, particularly those under the age of 2.
