In Canada, Jonathan Pednault, the co-president of the Green Party at the federal level, has resigned from the party leadership. Pednault had to face a defeat in the Outremont riding of Montreal, finishing fourth, against the Liberal Party's Rachel Bendayan. He said in a statement on social media that I have failed twice to convince the people of my constituency to send me to Ottawa, so I am resigning immediately.
It is worth noting that Bendayan, who won the Outremont riding of Montreal by a large margin, was appointed by Mark Carney as the immigration minister in his cabinet before the election.
Green Party co-chairman Jonathan Pednault received just 4,500 votes in the seat, while Bendayan received 26,024 votes, defeating his main rival, the Conservative candidate, by a margin of 20,000 votes.
