Political activity in Punjab has intensified as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 state Assembly elections. In this context, the Bharatiya Janata Party has taken another step to strengthen its organisational base in the state.
On Friday, former Congress Member of Parliament Jagmeet Brar formally joined the BJP in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini. He was joined by Omkar Sidhu, former officer on special duty to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Charanjit Brar, and Jagmeet Brar’s brother Ripjeet Singh Brar.
BJP leaders said the induction of experienced political figures from different parties reflects growing confidence in the party’s leadership and policies, and is expected to help expand the BJP’s outreach in key regions of Punjab.
Jagmeet Brar has previously been associated with multiple political parties. He contested the 2022 Punjab Assembly election from the Maur Mandi constituency on a Shiromani Akali Dal ticket, highlighting his continued presence in state politics.
Political observers note that such cross party movements are likely to continue in the coming months, as all major parties work to consolidate support and sharpen their strategies ahead of the 2027 polls.
