The Indian National Congress (INC) opened its account in Punjab, as former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi won the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat by defeating BJP’s Sushil Kumar Rinku with a margin of 1,75,993 votes.

The Indian National Congress’ (INC) Channi got 3,90,053 votes. He was followed by BJP’s Rinku who polled 2,14,060 votes. Pawan Kumar Tinu of the Aam Aadmi Party came in next with votes totalling 2,08,889 and Mohinder Singh Kaypee of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) with 67,911 votes.
